“When we as a society begin to value mothers as the givers and supporters of life,

then we will see social change in ways that matter.”

~Ina May Gaskin, midwife

Fire in the Belly: Prenatal Bellydance & Core Birth Preparation is a specialized 1:1 pathway within my signature Fire in the Belly coaching program, created especially for women during pregnancy.

Pregnancy is a profound physical, emotional, and spiritual transformation—and your changing body is not something to simply manage or get through. Through trauma-informed embodied dance, bellydance, core-pelvic preparation, breath, somatic awareness, and creative expression, we work with your body as a source of wisdom, strength, sensuality, vitality, and feminine power as you prepare for birth and motherhood.

This is movement as preparation, connection, and empowerment—not performance. Bellydance provides a beautiful and time-tested movement language for exploring the belly, pelvis, breath, posture, mobility, rhythm, and embodied awareness while cultivating a deeper relationship with the body you are inhabiting now.

And because Fire in the Belly is about more than pregnancy or birth, this work can become a foundation for your continuing journey into postpartum recovery, renewed body connection, and the full reclamation of your movement, vitality, and feminine self-expression.

Prenatal Bellydance: Powerful Feminine Movement

Did you know that, in its roots…

It is an ancient spiritual and healing dance form that honors and celebrates women’s bodies and brings us together in support of each other?

It has origins as a “birthing dance” during pregnancy and labor to assist in prenatal physical conditioning, natural positioning of the baby, and riding the contractions of labor?

These are our powerful, healing feminine movements to reclaim for ourselves, our girls and young women, especially in these times.

“Belly dancing, for example, is just one way that certain cultures have devised over time to lower rates of fetal malpositioning during the last three months of pregnancy, or even to change a baby’s position during strong labor.”

How does bellydance help in the birthing process?

Some of the foundational benefits of bellydance:

Toning the thighs and abdominal and pelvic muscles, including the pelvic floor.

Birthing and parenting is hard work! It’s important to prepare and have a strong body to meet the physical demands. The movements that target the abdomen and hips tone and strengthen these muscles for birth preparation and postnatal recovery. They help prevent lower back pain and uterine prolapse while improving posture and stamina.

May prevent the need for a C-section or support the decision for a V-BAC.

The slow hip movements along with breathing, help the baby to find its best or optimal position.

Building self-esteem and body awareness. Insecurity about body image often comes up during pregnancy.

Bellydance helps women enjoy their bodies and feel beautiful with its feminine movements. It celebrates our bodies of all shapes and sizes.

Stress reduction.

Bellydance can be a meditative dance with soothing repetition of flowing movements and rhythms. It increases blood and lymph flow allowing for more flexibility and agility. It helps relax the mind and muscle tension (including the pelvis and pelvic floor).

Improves digestion.

By constantly engaging the belly via movement and massaging the digestive track internally via the breath, it helps digestion and prevents constipation.

Some potential positive effects:

Prevent C-sections & Support for VBAC's.

The slow hip movements can help the baby find its proper positioning to allow the baby to move through the birth canal during birth.

Pain reduction in labor.
Bellydancing can help facilitate a meditative state which allows the mind and body to cope better with fear, pain and discomfort. I’ve been told that “shimmies” can help break up and release the tension that builds up in the pelvis.

It’s fun and uplifting!

Dancing with other women or by yourself with music that you love, focusing on your well-being, and spending quality time with your baby is great for your heart and soul and your baby!

We are blessed to have this dance form handed down to us from its beginnings and development by the peoples of India, North Africa, and the Middle East. All of these cultures still enjoy rich and vibrant dance and music shared in the family and the community.

Somatic Healing & Embodiment Coach

Spiritual Guide

Prenatal/Postnatal Core-Pelvic Specialist

For over 30 years, I have shared dance, movement, breath, and touch as healing arts — an interdisciplinary path of embodiment, creative freedom, and spiritual connection.

I have specialized in prenatal/postnatal support for mothers for 20+ years.

My work draws upon somatic therapeutic movement, bellydance therapy, breathwork, corrective exercise, energy healing, core-pelvic restoration, ancient and ancestral mystical wisdom to help mothers to prepare for birth and motherhood, reclaim their vitality, joy, and authentic expression.

I believe every woman holds a dancer spirit within her — and that conscious movement and an active lifestyle is one of the most powerful ways we can awaken the wisdom of the body and the soul.

A Multidisciplinary Approach to Pregnancy & Birth Preparation

Prenatal Fire in the Belly brings together several strands of my professional training and life’s work:

Bellydance & Embodied Movement

More than three decades of experience in bellydance, therapeutic movement, creative expression, and dance as a healing art—adapted thoughtfully for the pregnant body.

Prenatal & Postnatal Corrective Exercise
Extensive specialized training in prenatal and postnatal holistic core/pelvic specialization and corrective exercise (including breathwork, meditation, lifestyle) through Fit for Birth, founded by James Goodlatte, who also served as my mentor for several years during my time in Miami.

Breath & Core-Pelvic Connection
Specialized breathwork and movement practices that support awareness of the diaphragm, deep core, pelvic floor, posture, alignment, mobility, and the changing relationship between these systems throughout pregnancy.

Somatic-Spiritual Support
Trauma-informed somatic practices and spiritual guidance that honor pregnancy not only as a physical experience, but as a profound emotional, creative, and spiritual transition.

Together, these approaches create something different from either traditional prenatal fitness or dance instruction alone.

This is preparation through relationship with your body—learning to listen, adapt, strengthen, breathe, move, and trust yourself as your body changes and you prepare to give birth.

Bellydance as Healing Art

Bellydance is a foundational movement language in my work—and during pregnancy, its relationship with the belly, pelvis, spine, breath, rhythm, and grounded movement can become a beautiful way to connect with your changing body.

I approach bellydance as a healing art rather than performance training. Through gentle, embodied movement, we explore core-pelvic awareness, mobility, posture, breath, fluidity, sensuality, confidence, and creative expression while honoring the profound physical and emotional transformation of pregnancy.

You do not need dance experience. You do not need to be “a dancer.”

You simply need a body that is changing and a willingness to listen to it.

For women who already dance, this can become an opportunity to adapt and deepen their movement practice through pregnancy. For women who have always wanted to dance, it can be a joyful doorway into embodied movement at a remarkable moment in their lives.

And because pregnancy is not separate from the rest of your story, this work can become a foundation for postpartum recovery, renewed body connection, and your continuing Fire in the Belly journey.

Movement as preparation. Movement as connection. Movement as empowerment.
