What is Hawaiian Lomi Lomi?

Lomi Lomi is a form of traditional Hawaiian massage with a loving, spiritual base.  Referred to as “loving hands massage” and “prayer work”, it is an age old form of massage originally practiced only by Hawaiians within the Hawaiian culture.

Very straightforward and deeply healing, this versatile style can be adapted to the individual’s needs.  I have worked with a wide variety of people from children healing from trauma to pregnant women to athletes; the result is a unique, healing experience and a feeling of health and well-being.

Is Lomi Lomi also Deep Tissue Massage?

Lomi Lomi can be RELAXING, SOOTHING,  and GENTLE, including PREGNANCY and POSTPARTUM. But it is also an excellent and even PLEASANT ALTERNATIVE FORM OF DEEP TISSUE  and SPORTS MASSAGE. Forearms, elbows, wrists, and knuckles are skillfully incorporated to allow for very detailed work when needed.

The foundational style of my massage practice is Hawaiian Lomi Lomi (Pololei style) originally taught to the non-Hawaiian world by Hawaiian healer and teacher, Aunty Margaret Machado. It is an honor and a gift to practice Lomi Lomi. I knew, even while still in massage school, that I was called to study and practice it. It has deeply changed me, my life, and my massage practice for the better.

Hawaiian Lomi Lomi/Thai Yoga Fusion

Why combine Lomi Lomi and Thai Yoga?

Hawaiian Lomi Lomi and Thai Yoga Massage combine very well on the massage table. The upper body is bare and covered with a small cloth while yoga pants are worn.

Lomi Lomi is fantastic for deep work on the neck, shoulders, back, hamstrings, and adductors while Thai Yoga facilitates deep stretching and therapeutic opening/release for hips and legs. This combination allows for intricate detail work on both the upper body and lower body in a way that brings out the strengths in each modality.
